Hunger Magazine

Earlier this month saw the launch of Hunger magazine’s second edition – for those who want to get their hands on the mag it’s out now at whsmiths for just £5 or from Other Criteria in Hardback for just £10! -The hefty magazine is an amazing collection of work from the Photographer Rankin as well as features on artisans that inspire and influence his work.  I was fortunate enough to be invited by Rankin to translate a photoshoot of the amazing Tuli, into a series of illustrations.  Blending my own floral style with the work of another photographer was a real challenge – especially finding a balance between the escapist, automatic style of drawing I enjoy, but retaining the compositional elements which I hope give a new strength to the images.. here’s some pics of the collaboration

A lovely end to the week – Yesterday evening the piece I donated to the Art for Heart’s sake Auction raised £800 for Kids Company which is amazing! thank you so much to the winning bidder and a huge thank you to Sophie Wharmby and Simon for putting on such an amazing spectacle at EDC London.

Just this morning a copy of My DPI magazine arrived through the door with a 6 page interview about my working practice.  A huge thank you to the team at DPI for sharing my work with it’s readers.  The article is produced in both Taiwanese and English. I will make some of the article available online at a later date.

After a busy month of commissions and exciting opportunities from Hong Kong and here in the UK, (looking forward to sharing some images when the projects launch) I am now looking forward to preparing the launch event of E D E N which will take place at Debut Contemporary on Saturday the 25th February.  The day’s drawing is a warm up to the 2 week installation place that will take place on the 1st March at Leytonstone’s Stone Space Gallery.

I will be showing framed work from the violence of flowers series at Debut Contemporary as well as performing a live drawing session in the window space.
I hope that you will be able to make it along as I demonstrate how I work with tea and ink to create floral forms within the gallery space. Details below – I will be there drawing from 11am – 7pm.

Good day in the studio yesterday – after collecting work from the Contemporary Romantics show I got back in the studio just before the heavens opened and finished off a new piece of work.. was a strange drawing experience and one of the more ‘automatic’ drawings I have carried out recently.  Thought I would post it to the blog as I haven’t decided whether it fits with the series ‘Violence of Flowers’ but maybe it works because it is so different to the others.  Most importantly it was a really euphoric experience making the work and I’m keen to share it so here it is!
